“To my knowledge, there had never been a product collab between a Japanese brand and a Puerto Rican designer, so I decided to feature our flags in the graphic. In particular, I chose “La Bandera de Resistencia” which is black and white to represent PR’s current struggle against colonialism and exploitation in the hope that it would create awareness to a new audience. The Japanese word for flag is “Kokki” which sounds exactly like “Coquí,” a frog that is a national symbol to my island. TANA came up with the idea of my name inside a b-ball which tied the final design together nicely!”
